Body Lift – Plastic Surgery

A body lift is the surgical removal of excess skin, which cannot be reduced with diet or workout. Body lifts are usually performed to bring back the body to a more youthful appearance after loss of skin elasticity due to massive weight loss, multiple pregnancies or age-related body changes.

This procedure will help raise, firm, and tighten the skin of the thighs, buttocks, hips, waist, and abdomen to create a more pleasing body contour.

Am I a good candidate?

For an abdominal lift: Take a pencil and place it in the fold where the skin hangs from the body. Leave the pencil; if it stays there without being held, then you are a good candidate for an abdominal lift.

For a thigh lift: Pinch the loose skin of your thighs in a way to lift them. If you like the results you see, you are a candidate for a thigh lift.

For a buttock lift: Stand facing away from the mirror and look over your shoulder so you have a broad view of your backside. Reach back with the palm of you hand and lift the butt. If you like the results you see, you are a candidate for a buttock lift.

* People considering a Body Lift must have maintained a stable weight for at least six months.

* People who have had a gastric restrictive procedure should wait at least one year after the surgery.

* Women considering pregnancy are advised to avoid the Body Lift surgery, as pregnancies significantly compromise the results.

How is it done?

Body Lift is technically a re-sculpting of the abdomen, hips, thighs, and buttocks. Broken into its components, lower Body Lift includes an abdominoplasty, a thigh lift, and a buttock lift.
Its major advantage is that it can be done in a single surgical session, or in stages, depending on the patient’s situation and needs.

Although the steps of the Body Lift procedure differ depending on the needs of the patient, the surgery usually starts with a horizontal incision just above the pubic area so the scar can be hidden under swimwear/underwear.

A circle is incised around the belly button so that it stays attached to the body. The abdominal muscles are then tightened together again.

The fat and skin from above the belly button is pulled down and sutured in place, and the belly button is pulled out to its normal position. The procedure continues with the rest of the body parts, such as the buttock lift, and often involves liposuction on the outer thighs.
The Body Lift surgery takes between four and eight hours.

How long is the recovery?

Recovery from the Body Lift can be painful. Patients have drains left for two to three days after surgery to drain tissue fluid or blood. An elastic dressing is applied for two to three weeks.

I strongly encourage you tos start walking the day after the surgery, and increase the walks as days pass. Most patients resume their normal activities in two to three weeks after Body Lift surgery.
